Yesterday I had fun working in my vegetable garden – barefoot gardening. I am getting the soil ready right now. The soil is mostly clay and so I need to add in some things to help with drainage and also extra nutrients by adding in things like peat moss, compost and sheep manure. Jean sifted the compost from our own compost piles. It felt incredibly satisfying to use compost that we created ourselves.

Today is the first day of the Raw Food Challenge and I feel really good about this one. Last night I listened to the first coaching call and I feel really ready for the challenge. I have had my morning smoothie already and it is absolutely delicious and so easy to make in my new amazing blender. Woohoo! Breakfast and Lunch will be the same – I just made one huge smoothie this morning and drank half for breakfast and the other half will be lunch. I love that. Lunch is already done. This frees up so much of my time to do other things. Another bonus. Another thing I think is really great about this particular raw food challenge is that there is approximately 2000 calories per day (you can adjust up or down if you wish), so there is no deprivation at all and all the recipes look so delicious. I am really excited to try them all. I know that there will be challenges (food cravings for sure) but the fact that I won’t be calorie deprived and healthy fats (avocado, olive oil, nuts & seeds) are included gives me a really good feeling about this challenge. So, wish me luck and I will definitely update you on my progress.

What an incredibly gorgeous weekend we had. Sunshine every day and such warm weather, it felt like summer had arrived instead of spring. We spent so much time outdoors in the backyard. I designed a special garden plan for this year and Jean marked it out for me with string and stakes. Next weekend we are renting a rototiller to break up the soil and create my massive garden beds. I am dreaming big these days, and it looks like my garden dreams are going to come true. How exciting.

I spent some time starting more seeds in pots. I worked outside – barefoot. What a lovely feeling; and so healing, connecting with the earth in that way. I have recently been reading about the tremendous healing powers of grounding yourself to the earth in this way – bare skin touching the earth. Here is a better explanation about the importance of grounding yourself.

Our kitty Will spent some time outside too. He was a bit nervous at first, so that is why he is in his crate in the photo above. We opened up the door and after a while he was brave enough to venture out in the open.

What a wonderful feeling, being out in the open air, in our yard, actually spending some quality time together instead of each of us separately in front of one screen or another. All of us were so eager to get outside into the sun after the long cold winter indoors. Our hibernation is officially over. Just in time for Easter (what perfect timing), a time for new beginnings.

Last year at this time I was just beginning to get up enough energy to go for 10 minute walks. This year I feel so energized and raring to go. What a difference. I am so grateful for this increase in energy. This is what prompted me to step up my garden plans. Last year we did a tiny little garden bed. Just big enough for Jayla to look after, with my help. This year I am not holding back. Jean said he will help me with the initial set up of the gardens, but then it will be up to me to look after them. Hopefully with a bit of help from Jayla.

Jayla and I started a few seeds this week. 2 different kinds of leeks and 3 different kinds of onions. I have grand plans for our backyard garden this year and I am hoping I can pull it off.

We went outside to wet the seed starting mix, but first we said a prayer to bless the water before adding it to the soilless mix. I have a blessing (scroll down to the bottom of the page) that a dear friend gave me a few years ago to bless our water. I put mine on packing labels that I printed off the computer, so that I can stick them right on our incoming and outgoing pipes, our water cooler carafe and watering cans.. Dr. Masaru Emoto has done some remarkable work with water crystals and the power of positive words, check out this remarkable and mind boggling video. Then we blessed the seeds and sent them our love before sowing them. I reminded Jayla (and myself) that these seeds will eventually become plants that will feed us and so we need to infuse them with love energy. This beautiful energy will then go into our bodies when the plants are harvested and eaten.

I know some of you might think that this is a “bit much” or “airy fairy” or whatever other words you use to describe these practices; but the entire planet and everything on it is made of energy – we are energy. We appear solid, but we are not. And the plants we eat are made of energy too. It mixes with our energy. It becomes us. It really does.

So, I say, why not put a little bit more positive energy out there in the world. It couldn’t hurt right?!

“When the moon is in the Seventh House
And Jupiter aligns with Mars
Then peace will guide the planets
And love will steer the stars
This is the dawning of the age of Aquarius
Age of Aquarius
Aquarius!
Aquarius!

Harmony and understanding
Sympathy and trust abounding
No more falsehoods or derisions
Golden living dreams of visions
Mystic crystal revelation
And the mind’s true liberation
Aquarius!
Aquarius!

Let the sunshine, let the sunshine in, the sunshine in
Let the sunshine, let the sunshine in, the sunshine in
Let the sunshine, let the sunshine in, the sunshine in

Oh, let it shine, c’mon
Now everybody just sing along
Let the sun shine in
Open up your heart and let it shine on in
When you are lonely, let it shine on
Got to open up your heart and let it shine on in
And when you feel like you’ve been mistreated
And your friends turn away
Just open your heart, and shine it on in”

And in case you are wondering, my astrological sign is, you guessed it… Aquarius. And if you have never heard this song, you can listen to it here.
